One person has been pronounced dead while two civilians and a Police Sergeant sustained severe injuries as a result of a clash between the police and youth of Bomfa and Adwumakasekese over a boundary dispute between the two communities.
ASP Godwin Ahianyo, Public Affairs Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, stated at a press briefing that Sergeant Isaac Achampong and two of the youth sustained severe injuries, while Emmanuel Addae was pronounced dead as a result of fire exchanges between the police and the youth.
ASP Ahianyo stated that the Police Sergeant is receiving treatment and in a stable condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The cop was reportedly taken hostage by the residents, but was later rescued by the Chief of Adwumakasekese, giving the assurance that the two chiefs have agreed to settle their differences, after a meeting with the Police Command.
He stated that the police Sergeant was hit by a foreign object and out of that he also fired shots resulting in the death of one Emmanuel Addai, with another sustaining injuries on Friday morning.
He disclosed that the Regional Command received a complaint from Bomfa that some youth from Adwumakasekese had stormed the community and attacking the indigenes, and for that matter, the police rushed to the community and unfortunately some of the officers were attacked.
He disclosed that the Police Command has met the two chiefs from the communities and they have agreed to resolve their differences.
He assured the residents of Adwumakasekese and Bomfa that the police would ensure that the issue is resolved, and have made it known to the chiefs that the matter will be reported to the Overlord of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Meanwhile, the CID is investigating the circumstances that led to the attack on police officers and the death of one person.
Nana Asenso Kofo Ababio, Chief of Adwumakasekese, also pleaded with his people to calm down and allow the matter to be handled by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Nana Kwaku Twumasi Bomfahene also condemned the incident by the youth of Adwumakasekese, hoping that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II would resolve the issue.
