The Assembly Member for the Adantia Electoral Area of the Sunyani West Municipal in the Bono Region, Mr. Kwadwo Ernest Yeboah, is appealing for support to complete a community-funded classroom block at the Adantia M/A Basic Kindergarten (KG).
According to him, the uncompleted three-unit classroom block was started with support from chiefs, philanthropists and the people of Adantia, after a fund-raising in December, 2020.
Mr. Yeboah stressed that the project is in progress, but they still need support to complete it at the fastest pace. He commended the Chiefs of Adantia, Unit Committee members, the people of Adantia and other philanthropists for their efforts, and requested more support to complete the project.
Available data shows that the nation has made gains in the gross enrolment rates at the basic education level, especially at the kindergarten and primary levels, following the implementation of social intervention programmes such as Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme, Free Textbooks and free exercise books.
However, one daunting challenge that confronts Ghana’s education system is the lack of suitable classrooms for children to sit and learn in.
The challenge has led many school managers to improvise with trees under which children sit to receive teaching and learn. This improvisation is referred to as “schools under trees”, and it is prevalent in some parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani West, who is now acting, Mr. Martin Obeng, has flaunted his achievements since he assumed office in 2017, saying it was due to his hard work and that of his workers and other stakeholders that elevated the district to Municipal status.
He disclosed that the Sunyani West Assembly was second in the Bono Region in the District and Municipal performance table and 14th in the country.
The acting MCE noted that during his tenure of office, he helped to lobby for the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), distribution of cashew seedlings to farmers, and 200 persons in the municipality were employed in the sanitation sector.
Mr. Obeng said there was no medical doctor in the Municipality, but, currently, there are four of them and commended the chiefs in the municipality for their support.
On COVID-19, Mr. Obeng outlined measures taken to curb the spread of the pandemic in the municipality, and advised the people to adhere to the safety protocols.
He also advised those vying for the MCE position to desist from trading insults and violent behavior, and called for support for whoever the President would appoint as MCE.
