The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the commencement of work of 68 lockable shops and ancillary facilities.
The other projects include precast blocks paving of the Old Premier market (3,000 square metres) at Akyem Oda, and construction of 600mm diametres concrete “U” drain (240m) at in the Eastern region.
The projects are under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), which is a five-year World Bank funded credit facility in participating municipalities and is being implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, with support from the office of the Head of Local Government Service and respective regional coordinating councils.
The Minister was accompanied by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Victoria Adu, and the chiefs and people of the area.
Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, Seth Kwame Acheampong reiterated that the Akufo-Addo government was committed to providing comfort for Ghanaians to empower the country’s economic growth of which market women were not left out.
On his part, Alexander Akwasi Acquah appealed to his constituents to exercise patience in the selection and appointment of a MCE for the municipality, since the power lies only in the hands of the President, therefore, everyone must be calm and stop the fight and insults raining on their leaders.
Victoria Adu thanked the government for its concern for the people of Akyem Oda by ensuring enough developmental projects in the municipality, and pledged to supervise the ongoing projects.
