A local Non-Governmental Organisation, Oasis Ghana, which seeks the welfare and better life of the youth, particularly the girl-child, towards youth development and excellence, has donated about 3000 packets of sanitary pads to over 1,200 students in six communities in Ashanti and Bono regions.
Three adjoining communities each at Kubeasi in the Ejisu Municipality and Brodekwano in the Bosomtwi district have so far benefited from the largesse of Oasis Ghana.
The NGO, as a youth excellence support agency, has also donated sanitary pads to 600 pupils from five schools at Yamfo in the Bono region. They received three packets each of sanitary pads under the NGO’s “Clean Girl Campaign” which supplies sanitary pads to young girls in under-privileged schools to encourage the girl-child to pursue education.
Oasis Ghana has also supplied PPEs to the Yamfo Health Centre at Yamfo.
Mr. Daniel Asante-Peprah, Executive Director of the NGO, disclosed that the objectives of the NGO are to seek better lives for the youth by assisting in their education in terms of paying fees.
It also provides career guidance seminar and community participation through charity works and education bordering on health issues, which includes puberty and sexual health for nurses.
Mr. Asante-Peprah said in order to sustain the activities of “Clean Girl campaign”, the Board of Directors, the sole financiers of the NGO, intend to establish a Sanitary Pad bank, from which regular supply of sanitary pads to prospective beneficiaries would be provided.
The proposed storage would enable the NGO to extend donation of the item to other communities in the Bono and Ahafo regions.
According to Mr. Asante-Peprah, the 12 member Board of Directors has proposed to organise seminars for young girls in the Ejisu and Juaben municipalities in the Ashanti region, as well as for SHS graduates to improve upon their lives.
The Executive Director appealed for financial support from religious and corporate organisations, as well as benevolent individuals to enable it implement its mandate.
