The Member of Parliament for Fomena, Rt. Hon. Andrews Amoako Asiamah at the weekend joined the family of the late Mr. Marcellus KowFreiku at the final funeral rites of the latter, at Akrokerri in the Adansi North District.
The late Mr. Freiku was the campaign manager of Lawyer Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who is the Second Deputy Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.
The MP was with the family at the burial service and joined the procession for the interment ceremony at the Catholic Cemetery and also partook in the final funeral rites and thanksgiving service at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church at Akrokerri on Sunday.
The late Freiku, 58, died on January 17, 2121 after a short illness, following a vigorous electioneering campaign which saw the re-election of the Fomena MP as an independent candidate.
His strategic efforts and tactics at the 2020 elections, which culminated in the victory of Lawyer Asiamah at the 2020 elections, earned him the accolade of “Senior Minister” among the Campaign Team andcolleagues.
In a tribute, the MP described the late Freiku variously as a political giant, gallant soldier and one of the many souls who had the Fomena Constituency at heart and needed its liberation at all cost, even to the very last drop of his blood.
He saw late Freiku as an icon in the Fomena Liberation Movement for the 2020 December polls, because the liberation of the constituency would not have been possible without his (Freiku) invaluable sacrifices.
“With hardwork and diligence, you served in the capacity you could and even those that you couldn’t. Your relentless acts of service made your name known to almost all who wanted to see change in this constituency.
“Many called you the senior Minister of the Liberation Movement because of the content of your counsel each time we met and the strategies you brought to the table”.
The Fomena law maker noted that the contributions of the late Freiku cannot be easily forgotten for living and dying for the Liberation of Fomena Constituency.
Rev. Father Eredire Edgar of Wa Catholic Church, whom Mr. Freiku established close relationship with while he was on transfer to the Lambusie District in the Upper West region as NADMO staff and was at Akrokerri at the weekend to sympathise with the Freiku family, described his late friend as a very nice gentleman.
In 2001, the late Mr. Freiku was seconded to the National Disaster Management
Organisation (NADMO) at Adansi West District Assembly, Obuasi, after the creation of the Adansi North District Assembly. Ekow was then transferred to Fomena as the NADMO Co-ordinator, following which he was appointed (as Government Appointee ) to the Adansi North DistrictAssembly and thus qualified him to become the first Presiding Member of the new district.
Following a change of government in 2009, he was transferred to the NADMO office in the Lambusie district in the Upper West region, wherehe met Rev. Father Eredire Erdgar.
Ekow returned to Fomena NADMO as the Administrator on transfer from the Upper West region on health grounds, as the environment looked unfriendly to his health.
Until October 2019, Ekow also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of AsareBediako Senior High School at Akrokerri for more than eight years.
Earlier in 1996, he stepped in the shoes of his late father and assumed the position of the Constituency Vice chairman of the New Patriotic party and eventually became the constituency chairman, upon the demise of Mr. Kwoffie, the constituency chairman.
