Ms. Ingrid Van Dunnengem, a Belgian widow, has appealed to the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Apeatu, to investigate the circumstances under which a policeman at the Kasoa Divisional Police Station, diverted 2,000 Euros, being part payment of 20,000 Euros, in a fraud case.
Making the appeal through the Ghanaian Times, the widow accused the police of colluding with a lawyer, currently being investigated by the General Legal Council, to strike out her case at the Swedru Circuit Court.
Ms Dunnengem, therefore, wants the IGP to probe the conduct of Sergeant Gariba Joseph, the investigator in the case (now Inspector Gariba Joseph).
Inspector Gariba was said to be the policeman, who investigated the case in which the Belgian woman was defrauded of 20,000 Euros by Frederick Bosompem, also known as Amando, between the year 2008 and 2009.
Complainant said when the case was sent to the Swedru Circuit Court, the defendant and his father, Frederick, Richard Bosompem, agreed to refund the money, and subsequently paid 2,000 Euros, but she never received the money.
Ms Dunnengem said Insp Gariba, and her lawyer knew the truth about payments received from the family of Frederick.
She said an independent inquiry into the matter was the only means of ascertaining the truth.
When contacted, Insp Gariba, who requested to meet the interviewer before making any statement, later said he had forgotten about the issue.
