Concerned
citizens of Jirapa and a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) loyalists based in
the Upper West Region have mounted pressure on the government for the removal of
Christine Bombanye-Amadu, their Municipal Chief Executive from office.
They alleged at a street protest that she was
guilty of procurement breaches and starving her community of the needed growth
and development but she has denied all allegations levelled against her.
The concerned citizens of Jirapa and the NPP
loyalists insisted that Madam Bonbanye-Amadu claimed she had awarded a contract
on June 25, 2017, for the construction of a three-unit classroom block at
Mwankuri-Chachaa but no such contract was awarded on that date and yet she made
a payment of GH¢169,799.85 in respect of that non-existent contract without the
assembly’s approval.
In a petition signed
and issued by Collins Tanye, the Deputy NPP Constituency Secretary called on
the president for her removal since she was guilty of procurement breaches, had
allegedly paid for projects not executed and starved the municipality of growth
and development which was impoverishing the residents.
Denying the allegations levelled against her,
Madam Bombanye-Amadu maintained that ”in the first place, Metropolitan Municipal
and District Chief Executives do not award contracts, there is a committee that is in charge of the
award of contracts and if they are saying that I have awarded a contract to the
National Democratic Congress Regional Chairman, it is untrue.
“Whatever I say at this material moment they
wouldn’t take it, my wish is that the president and the party should set up a
committee to look into the issue, “she insisted. -myjoyonline.com
