Bank of Africa (BOA)-Ghana, a member of the Bank of Africa BMCE Group, has hosted members of the Muslim community and clients at a special Iftar gathering in Accra, following a donation to the Office of the National Chief Imam.

The event formed part of the bank’s efforts to deepen engagement with faith-based communities while promoting inclusivity, religious tolerance and gender equality.
Ramadan, a period marked by reflection, prayer and charity, provided the backdrop for the initiative, with the bank reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Muslim community.
Managing Director of BOA-Ghana, Abderrahmane Belbachir, said the annual activity underscores the bank’s dedication to sustaining the spirit of charity.
“We believe in the spirit of giving and always seek to support our clients and the communities in which we operate. Our corporate social responsibility initiatives target the marginalised and the needy, alongside programmes such as this for the Muslim community and others across the country,” he said.
He noted that the values of Ramadan extend beyond religious practice and align with the bank’s principles of leadership, service and community development.
Touching on the bank’s strategy for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Mr. Belbachir indicated that BOA-Ghana, with operations in about 18 African countries, is well positioned to support businesses engaged in cross-border trade.
“We are a universal bank with tailored products for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as for the Muslim community. We encourage businesses to partner with us for financial solutions that support their growth locally and across borders,” he added.
During a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, at his residence in Fadama, Accra, management reiterated the bank’s commitment to delivering tailored financial products, particularly for SME operators, including those within the Zongo communities.
As part of the visit, the bank donated an undisclosed sum of money and assorted food items, including bags of rice, cooking oil and beverages, to support the Imam’s annual assistance to the needy during Ramadan.
The Chief Imam commended the bank for its continued generosity, noting that acts of charity are highly valued and rewarded. He also prayed for the bank’s growth and success.
He further stressed the need for peace and unity across religious lines, emphasising that such values are essential for socio-economic development.
Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at BOA-Ghana, Leila Pentsil, reiterated that the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to standing with the Muslim community during Ramadan.
She added that similar donation exercises were undertaken simultaneously in other regions where the bank operates.
