Hearts of Oak Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, has stated that the club’s goalkeeping coach, Najahu Issah, will determine when Benjamin Asare returns to the starting lineup.
Asare lost his first-choice status to Solomon Agbetsi after sustaining an injury in an international friendly against South Korea last November.
Agbetsi, who made his debut against Swedru All Blacks that same month, has since cemented his place between the posts for the Phobian club.
Although Asare has recovered, he is yet to feature in a match for Hearts of Oak. Speaking to Asempa FM, Opare Addo said any decision regarding Asare reclaiming the starting spot rests solely with the goalkeeping coach.
“For now, Benjamin Asare will be given a few minutes of play until he fully recovers from his injury. The decision for him to take the starting position in goal, replacing Agbetsi, will be made by the goalkeeper’s trainer,” he explained.
Opare Addo also clarified why Asare missed Hearts’ recent clash against Medeama, attributing it to a stomach upset.
“Benjaime Asare made the team sheet but missed the Medeama clash because of a stomach upset,” he added.
Asare will be looking to regain his starting position when Hearts of Oak face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 fixture at Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.
