Austrian-born Ghanaian defender Samson Baidoo is set for a spell on the sidelines after RC Lens manager Pierre Sage confirmed the centre-back will be out of action for several weeks.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Sage revealed that the 21-year-old is likely to remain unavailable until Lens’ Ligue 1 clash against FC Metz.
The setback comes as a fresh blow for the defender, who recently returned from a hamstring injury only to suffer a relapse.
Baidoo has already missed key fixtures for Les Sang et Or, including the 3-1 league defeat to Olympique de Marseille, the 1-0 win over Le Havre, and their Coupe de France quarter-final qualification against ESTAC Troyes.
He has now been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Paris FC and is expected to miss crucial league encounters against AS Monaco on February 21 and RC Strasbourg on February 27.
He will also be absent for the Coupe de France tie against Olympique Lyonnais on March 5.
The injury represents a significant setback for Lens, who are currently second in the Ligue 1 standings, just two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the title race.
Baidoo, highly regarded for his composure and defensive intelligence, has become an important figure in Lens’ backline this season.
His absence will test the squad’s depth as they continue their push for domestic silverware.
