Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to combat match manipulation and illegal betting, warning that such activities threaten the integrity of the domestic game.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Inspector-General of Police COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu and the Police leadership at the Police Headquarters in Accra, Okraku appealed for closer collaboration between football authorities and law enforcement.
He urged the Police to support investigations and enforcement measures to root out individuals involved in corrupt practices, describing them as “faceless cowards” who undermine the credibility of competitions.
The GFA President stressed that safeguarding the sport requires specialised attention, noting that sports policing comes with unique challenges, including crowd control, emotional intensity and the need to protect players, officials and supporters.
Okraku said the FA was committed to working with security agencies to ensure matches are played in a safe and fair environment, adding that integrity protection remains central to the Association’s agenda.
Inspector-General Yohunu assured the FA of the Police Service’s support, pledging continued collaboration to strengthen security at match venues and assist efforts aimed at preserving discipline and professionalism within Ghana football.
