Asante Kotoko interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has opened up about the pain of his side's inability to secure wins at their cherished Baba Yara Stadium, admitting the situation weighs heavily on both him and the fans.
Speaking in a pre-match interview with Kotoko Media ahead of their Ghana Premier League clash against Karela United in Tamale, Owusu reflected on the dropped points at home that have hampered the Porcupine Warriors' season.
Kotoko's recent form at Baba Yara has been particularly frustrating. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak before being held to a goalless draw by Vision FCâboth games seeing Kotoko play with a man advantage for the entire second half.
"It's not easy at all. A lot of thinking about what's going on, what is happening, why Kumasi, all those things cross my mind," Owusu confessed.
"It hurts a lot because my fans also are in Kumasi, and this is where we have to satisfy them, and it's not happening. It's very difficult for us."
Kotoko currently sit fourth in the league standings, but their home struggles have cost them valuable points in the title race. Adding to the challenge, the Porcupine Warriors have not won in Tamale since 2017âa barren run they will hope to end against Karela United.
For Owusu and his players, the task is clear: find a way to deliver for the fans, both at home and on the road.
