American-Ghanaian defender Devon Amoo-Mensah delivered an excellent all-round display and registered a key assist as Detroit City FC opened their 2026 USL Championship campaign with a 3â0 home win over Brooklyn at Keyworth Stadium.
The centre-back set the tone inside two minutes, stepping out from defence to start the move and then supplying the final pass for Darren Smith to sweep in the opener.
Detroit dominated the first half and were rewarded again on 32 minutes when Smith grabbed his second to make it 2â0, giving the hosts full control heading into the break.
Brooklyn improved slightly after the interval but struggled to create clear chances, and Detroit’s back line, marshalled confidently by Amoo-Mensah, kept them at arm’s length throughout. The result was sealed late on when substitute Chisom Egbuchunam added a third in the 86th minute.
Amoo-Mensah’s assist means he starts the 2026 USL Championship season with 1 appearance and 1 assist.
Detroit City FC now quickly turn their attention to the US Open Cup, where they host Michigan Rangers tomorrow night in their next competitive fixture.
