President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct three new stadiums in 2026, with a commitment to continue the initiative annually until all regions have modern sports facilities.
The President made the pledge during a Citizen Engagement in Sunyani as part of his tour of the Bono Region, where he outlined key development projects.
Mahama said the move is part of his government’s broader plan to improve sports infrastructure nationwide, ensuring that regions without stadiums are provided with one.
“When you look at our manifesto, we stated that all regions that do not have stadiums will be provided with one,” he said. “In this year’s budget, we have factored in the construction of three stadiums this year, and we will do it every year so that every region will have its stadium.”
He added that work is already underway on the design phase, with a focus on creating multi-purpose facilities.
“As I speak, the stadium design is being put together. We want to make these structures more than just stadiums but also economic centres,” Mahama stated.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in expanding access to sports facilities while also contributing to local economic development.
