The Juaso District Police Command has arrested yet another consignment of ammunition being transported to the northern part of the country, following an operation at a police checkpoint in the Ashanti Region.
The arrest was made on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., when officers on duty at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier intercepted a Kia Granbird bus with registration number AK 1309–21.
The vehicle was traveling from Accra to Tamale, with Savulegu as its final destination.

The bus was being driven by Mohammed Gzali, aged 42, with his mate, Mohammed Jabir, aged 22. Forty-five passengers were on board at the time of the interception.
According to police sources, officers conducting a routine check became suspicious that the vehicle might be conveying prohibited items.
The Divisional Commander was promptly informed and proceeded to the scene alongside the Juaso District Commander and the District Crime Officer.

An extensive search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a fertilizer sack containing one thousand and fifty (1,050) rounds of AAA and BB cartridge ammunition.
When questioned, the driver told police that the sack had been handed over to him by an unknown individual as a parcel to be delivered to a person identified only as “Oboye” in Tamale.
The bus was immediately impounded, while the ammunition was seized and retained as exhibits. The driver and his mate have been taken into police custody and are currently assisting with investigations.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify the source and intended recipient of the ammunition, as authorities intensify efforts to clamp down on the illegal movement of arms and ammunition across the country.
