The Police in Cape Coast have arrested a man who claimed to be a Captain in the Ghana Army and a presidential staffer attached to the office of the vice president.
The suspect, who identified himself as Dr Patrick Nelson Ayittey, was alleged to have used these fake identities to defraud by false pretense and lured some unsuspecting victims into visa fraud.
According to Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie of the Public Affairs Unit of the Central Regional Police Command, “the Abura Police Station in Cape Coast received a report that between December, 2025 and January 2026” received a formal complaint about the alleged criminal activities of the said Dr Patrick Nelson Ayittey.
He added that Dr Patrick Nelson Ayittey allegedly claimed further that he had affiliations with the Canadian Embassy and could use his connections to secure Visa and work permits for his victims.
In the process, he was alleged to have demanded and received an amount of GHS 5,325.00 and GHS 8,200.00 respectively from two complainants under the pretext of securing them Canadian Visas and work permits.
However, the self-acclaimed presidential staffer could not honour his promise to the victims after he had allegedly taken their money, a situation that pushed the victims to report him to the police when all attempts to get him refund their money failed.
Chief Inspector Ettie posited further that the Police Intelligence led to the suspects’ arrest in his hideout at Abura, Cape Coast. A search conducted at the suspect’s residence revealed about 10 Ghanaian passports and other documents, including school certificates, birth certificates, and Ghana Cards.
“Further enquiries also revealed that the suspect is not a personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces as he claimed. He is also not a worker at the Vice President’s Office and has no affiliations with the Canadian Embassy and also not a medical doctor and does not have a doctorate degree”.
The police identified his real identity as Patrick Nii Torto, but not Dr Patrick Nelson Ayittey, as he has allegedly used to defraud his victims.
The suspect has since been remanded into Police custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court, presided over by Her Worship Nana Aba Quiaba Nunoo and he would reappear before the court on March 3, 2026.
This was to allow the police to further their investigations in other similar cases made against him.
The Police Command thus urged the public, especially those who had fallen victim to the self-styled Dr Patrick Nelson Ayittey’s modus operandi, to contact the command on 18555 and 191.
