The Ghana Police Service has arrested six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the alleged assault and robbery of a final-year student of Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
According to a statement issued on the Police Service’s official X handle, the incident occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., shortly after the close of an inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Police said the authorities of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School brought the six juvenile suspects to the Kotokuraba Police Station at about 7:30 p.m. the same day and formally lodged a complaint.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was leaving the stadium with two friends to return to campus when they were allegedly confronted at Pedu Junction by a group of Aggrey Memorial students who demanded to know if they attended Adisadel College.
Moments later, the group allegedly attacked them. While the victim’s two friends managed to escape, he was reportedly overpowered, kicked to the ground and assaulted. The suspects are also alleged to have taken his iPhone 17 Pro Max, an amount of GH¢1,400 in cash and his shoes.
The injured student was initially rushed to the stadium’s clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital for further treatment. He was discharged on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
A police medical report endorsed by a medical doctor indicates that the victim sustained a serious injury to his right eye, reportedly affecting the surrounding bone structure and leaving him unable to open the eye.
Police say the two friends who escaped have confirmed they can identify the attackers. The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the incident and assured the public that due process will be followed. The juvenile suspects, currently in police custody, are assisting with investigations and are expected to be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over student violence during inter-school events, particularly in Cape Coast, a city widely known for its cluster of historic secondary schools.
