The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a media sensitisation workshop for members of the Defence Press Corps aimed at strengthening military-media relations and promoting responsible defence reporting.
The workshop, which took place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 organised by the Department of Public Relations, brought together senior military officers and journalists who report on defence and security issues.
Addressing participants on behalf of the Military High Command, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Arhin, welcomed members of the Defence Press Corps and underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between the Armed Forces and the media.
She conveyed greetings from the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and noted that although the programme had initially been scheduled for last year, it had finally come to fruition.
“Today marks another milestone in our collective journey to deepen understanding and strengthen collaboration between the military and the media,” she said.
Captain Arhin emphasised the critical role of the media in shaping public perception of institutions, including the Armed Forces, describing journalists as a bridge between the military and the citizenry.
“The media carries the unique responsibility of informing, educating, setting the national agenda and serving as a watchdog. It is, therefore, fitting that the Ghana Armed Forces has convened this workshop to foster open dialogue, share experiences and learn from one another,” she stated.
She added that the engagement would help reaffirm a shared commitment to transparency, professionalism and national unity.
The Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, also addressed the gathering and expressed appreciation to members of the Defence Press Corps for attending the workshop.
“Before I start my lecture, I’d like to give a big round of applause. Thank you for coming,” he said, describing the workshop as a platform for open dialogue, capacity building and the development of best practices in defence reporting.
He stressed the need for professional engagement between the military and the media, noting that trust and accurate information dissemination are essential to safeguarding national security.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Armed Forces to strengthen its partnership with the media and enhance public understanding of its operations and mandate.
