Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has opened up about his journey with the national team, describing his current role as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream that he never imagined would include the captaincy.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Leicester City forward reflected on his longevity and unexpected rise to leadership within the squad.
Ayew, who has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s attack, admitted that leading the four-time African champions was never a personal objective during his early career.
"I am still living my dream, and I don't know when it will end," Ayew shared. "I never thought I would become a captain, because it was never in my mind. I believe in destiny, and I am still hoping for more."
Ayew’s tenure as captain has coincided with a significant resurgence for the Black Stars.
His leadership was instrumental during the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, where he recorded a staggering 14 goal contributionsâseven goals and seven assistsâto secure Ghana’s place at the tournament in North America.
At 34, Ayew remains one of the team's most consistent performers, balancing his veteran experience with a prolific output that surpassed many of the world's elite forwards during the qualifying window.
As he prepares to lead the nation onto the world stage, his message of "hoping for more" suggests that the captain believes his finest chapter with the Black Stars is yet to be written.
Ghana is in World Cup Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
