Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi continues to impress in his debut season with Nashville SC, delivering another standout performance that helped his team secure a historic 1â0 victory over Mexican giants Club América in the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals.
After a goalless first leg in Nashville, the odds were stacked against the MLS side heading into the intimidating Estadio Azteca. But Nashville defied expectations â and Woledzi played a central role in the club’s stunning triumph that sent them through to the semifinals.
The win marked a milestone moment as Nashville became the first MLS team ever to win at the Estadio Azteca, one of world football’s most iconic venues.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian was rock solid at the back, lasting the full 90 minutes and recording 10 key defensive contributions, six recoveries, and seven clearances. His consistency since joining the club earlier this year has not gone unnoticed, with growing calls for his inclusion in the Black Stars national team.
Reacting after the win, Woledzi expressed his joy on social media, posting, "Alhamdulilah, Hakuna Matata Semis.”
A product of the Right to Dream Academy, Woledzi joined Nashville on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Norwegian side Fredrikstad, where he was named the club’s Player of the Year before making the move stateside.
With Nashville now eyeing continental glory, Woledzi’s remarkable rise continues to gain momentum â and his performances suggest there’s plenty more to come.
