AC Milan midfielder Luka Modric is expected to be available for Croatia’s 2026 FIFA World Cup clash with Ghana despite recent injury concerns.
The veteran midfielder suffered a left cheekbone fracture during AC Milan’s goalless draw with Juventus, forcing him off late in the match. He is set to undergo surgery, which will rule him out for the remainder of the Serie A season.
Initial fears had raised doubts over his participation at the World Cup, but Croatian officials remain confident the 40-year-old will recover in time for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Modric remains a central figure for Croatia, having led the side to a runners-up finish in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2022. His experience and influence in midfield are expected to be key as Croatia look to navigate a demanding group.
Ghana’s meeting with Croatia is scheduled for June 27, 2026, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, in what could prove a decisive fixture in Group L.
Ghana will also face England and Panama in a group that presents a significant challenge for all four teams.
