Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign highly rated Ghanaian striker Robinho Yao Gavi, who is set to lead the Black Starlets' attack at the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 16-year-old goal poacher has been on the radar of European scouts for months, with the Blues' recruitment team tracking his progress through Ghana's youth setup.
Reports indicate that Chelsea have positioned themselves as the favourites ahead of Italian side Napoli, who are also keen on the youngster, along with clubs from Germany, Spain, and France.
Currently featuring for Hakala FC in the Ghana Division One League, Gavi has showcased the instincts of a natural finisher, as well as excellent pace and movement off the ball.
His performances in the WAFU Zone B qualifiers, where he scored crucial goals against Niger and Nigeria, have drawn attention from some of Europe's elite scouting networks.
The upcoming U-17 AFCON opener against Morocco is regarded as a significant test, with representatives from Chelsea, Napoli, and a host of other top clubs expected to be in attendance to get a closer look at the talented youngster.
For the young striker, a strong showing in the tournament could accelerate formal approaches and pave the way for a summer move to one of Europe's elite academies.
