Former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston believes Caleb Yirenkyi is the ideal replacement for Thomas Partey ahead of Ghana's opening game against Panama at the World Cup.
Partey will miss the game against Panama after he was denied an entry visa to Canada over allegations of rape and sexual assault.
Although the former Arsenal player admits not guilty, it was not enough to secure him the visa to travel to Canada.
This leaves coach Carlos Queiroz with other options in the team for the crucial Group L opener.
Kingston, who worked with Yirenkyi during his days at the Right to Dream Academy, believes the FC Nordsjaelland player will fill the gap left by Partey's absence.
"We will miss him (Thomas Partey) though but we have someone that they have not been using him well. They are playing him out of position. Caleb Yirenkyi. I worked with him for three years, I promoted him from U15's to U18 when I was working with Right to Dream," he said on Joy Sports.
"For me, he is a holding midfielder. When you watching him play at FC Nordsjaelland, they play him in the middle. He's grown up to be a box-to-box midfielder, he gets closer to the opponent box but he is a typical midfielder.
"He works hard and he is very good on the ball because he was well brought up. I gave him the opportunity at the U18s and he took it so for me the best position is in the midfield. I think he will replace Thomas Partey very easy," he added.
Meanwhile, Partey is expected to return to the team when the Black Stars face England in Boston.
Ghana will end Group L with a game against Croatia in Philadelphia.
