The players and technical team of Cape Verde were given a heroic welcome in Praia following their return home after a successful World Cup adventure.
The underdogs proved all their doubters wrong and won new fans for themselves after proving their quality against European champions Spain and World Cup holders Argentina.
And although, they suffered elimination at the hands of the world champions after a 3-2 round of 32 defeat, Cape Verde gained the attention of the world by becoming the smallest nation to reach the knockout phase of the competition.
The team arrived in Praia on Sunday to thousands of fans, who greeted and chanted the names of the heroes.
Vozinha, the 40-year-old goalkeeper and one of the best from the tournament, led the team to greet the fans after a short open bus parade.
A series of events have been lined up for the team including meeting top officials of the West African nation.
Cape Verde, who were making their debut at the World Cup, only lost to Argentina after draws with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
