The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has approved a contract extension for national team coach Hossam Hassan following Egypt's successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
EFA President Hany Abo Rida announced that the association's board had approved the renewal of contracts for head coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan, his twin brother.
"EFA President Hany Abo Rida announced that the association's board had approved the renewal of contracts for Egypt national team head coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan," the EFA said in a statement.
The 59-year-old was appointed in February 2024 and has overseen a period of significant progress for the Pharaohs.
Egypt claimed their first victory of the tournament under Hassan with a 3-1 win over New Zealand in Group G. They followed that up with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Australia in the Round of 32 â their first knockout win at a World Cup since 2028.
The Pharaohs' campaign eventually came to an end in the Round of 16, where they pushed defending champions Argentina all the way before falling 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.
Hassan also led Egypt to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, further cementing his reputation as one of the continent's top coaches.
Hassan had revealed earlier that he had been working with the national team without a contract since February 2026, making the renewal a priority for the EFA.
Local media reports indicate that the new contract will run until 2030, securing Hassan's services for the next four years as Egypt prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup cycle.
The contract extension for Ibrahim Hassan, who serves as team director, was also approved, ensuring continuity in the Pharaohs' technical setup.
