â??This will not demotivate usâ?? â?? Black Satellites coach Maxwell Konadu defiant despite early WAFU exit

Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu has insisted that Ghana’s early exit from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship will not discourage his team as they shift their focus to the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s campaign came to an end after they finished third in Group B with two points from three matches, concluding the tournament with a goalless draw against Togo.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Konadu remains confident the setback will serve as a valuable learning experience and provide extra motivation for the team moving forward.

Speaking after the elimination, the former Asante Kotoko coach stressed that the players must remain positive and use the disappointment as fuel to improve ahead of future assignments.

“This is not going to demotivate us. Rather, it will encourage us to give our best. We have to move on, reorganise ourselves and come back stronger,” Konadu said.

Although the Black Satellites failed to progress beyond the group stage, Ghana have already secured automatic qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as hosts.

The qualification gives the technical team sufficient time to assess the squad, address weaknesses identified during the WAFU tournament and build a stronger team capable of competing for honours on home soil.

Konadu and his players will now turn their attention to preparations for the continental showpiece, where they will be eager to make amends and restore national pride.
