Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says Ghana are now just one victory away from qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
The Swedish tactician described Ghana's performance in the goalless draw against Mali as the team's best display of the tournament and believes his players deserved a more comfortable result.
Ghana will now face Malawi in the quarterfinals, with victory securing both a place in the last four of WAFCON and a return to the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time since 2007.
"Because this quarterfinal is only one game from the World Cup," Bjorkegren said after the match.
The coach pointed to the statistics as evidence of Ghana's dominance, insisting the Black Queens should have wrapped up the game long before the closing stages.
"We're having an xG of almost 3.3 against 0.6. It's a normal game that you win 3-0 or something like that. But in the end, you need to be nervous."
Björkegren also praised his side's fast start, describing the first half as Ghana's strongest performance of the tournament.
"I think we were ready from the start today. The first half, like I said, this is probably the best one we have played."
