VfL Osnabruck Technical Director Daniel Latkowski has acknowledged that special circumstances surrounding Daniel Kofi Kyereh’s recent career made the Ghana international’s move to the German club possible.
Kyereh joined Osnabruck on a free transfer after spending a significant period on the sidelines following an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in February 2023.
The 30-year-old had previously established himself as one of the leading attacking players in the 2. Bundesliga during his time with FC St. Pauli, where he scored 21 goals and registered 20 assists in 62 league appearances.
He later moved to Bundesliga side SC Freiburg for one million euros in 2022 and featured in the Europa League before his injury disrupted his progress.
Latkowski said Osnabrück were fully aware of Kyereh’s injury history but were encouraged by the detailed monitoring of his physical development in recent months.
“At the same time, we are of course aware of his long period of suffering. Only these special circumstances make such a signing possible for us.”
The club’s Head of Performance, Sebastian Schwermann, has worked closely with Kyereh during his rehabilitation and monitored his progress.
Latkowski says that relationship has given Osnabrück confidence in the player’s current condition.
“Through the intensive support of Sebastian Schwermann, we know Kofi’s physical condition, development and current level of performance very well.”
