Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says Ghana’s primary objective at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is to break their long-standing group-stage barrier.
Ghana have never advanced to the knockout phase of the competition in seven attempts, making the upcoming tournament in Poland another opportunity for the West Africans to rewrite their history.
The Black Princesses have been preparing at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram since July 5, with Sampson confident in the progress made by his players.
He says the team will approach the tournament one match at a time while maintaining a clear focus on reaching the knockout stage.
“We want to assure Ghanaians we are going to give our best and progress from the group stage and take it game after game. The main focus is to make it past the group stage for the first time.”
Ghana have been drawn in Group B alongside Ecuador, Korea Republic and France, setting up a demanding challenge for Sampson’s side.
The Black Princesses will open their campaign against Ecuador on September 6 before facing Korea Republic and France.
The team will also play friendly matches in Poland before the tournament begins, allowing the players to adapt to the conditions and gain further exposure to international opposition.
Sampson welcomed the opportunity provided by the Ghana Football Association.
The tournament runs from September 5 to 27.
