Ghana will discover their opponents in the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 Play-Off Tournament when the draw is held in Zurich on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The draw will take place at the Home of FIFA at 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT) and will determine the fixtures for the six teams competing in the preliminary phase.
The Black Queens secured their place in the play-off tournament after beating Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the WAFCON play-in match in Casablanca on Thursday.
Ghana will enter the draw alongside fellow African representatives South Africa, as well as Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Ecuador and Papua New Guinea.
The six teams have been divided into three pots based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking as of June 16, with Ghana placed in Pot 3 alongside Ecuador.
Pot 1 consists of Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan, while South Africa and Papua New Guinea are in Pot 2.
Under the draw procedures, teams from the same confederation cannot face each other, meaning Ghana will not be paired with South Africa.
The preliminary phase will be played during the international window from November 24 to December 5, 2026. Each team will play three matches, with the top two teams advancing to the final phase.
Ghana will therefore need to finish among the top two to remain in contention for a place at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
The final phase will feature six teams competing across three knockout paths, with the three winners securing the remaining World Cup places.
