Upper West and Ashanti headline MTN Elite U-19 Championship return

The MTN Elite U-19 Championship resumes on Friday, 28 August 2026, with Upper West Region facing Ashanti Region in the opening match of Matchday Three at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

Both teams will be seeking victory as they look to strengthen their positions in the competition, with the Upper West Region-Ashanti Region encounter expected to provide a lively start to another important round of fixtures.

The championship paused on Thursday for a rest day, but action returns with four matches scheduled at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence. The games will give the participating regions another opportunity to collect points and build momentum as the group stage develops.

The opening fixture is set to showcase two sides determined to make progress in the tournament. Upper West Region and Ashanti Region will be keen to turn their efforts into a positive result, while the match will also provide another platform for young players to demonstrate their ability in a competitive setting.

Western Region will then meet Volta Region in the other Group A fixture. That match is scheduled to begin at 10:30am, with both teams aiming to claim valuable points as the battle for position in the group becomes increasingly competitive.

The focus will subsequently move to Group B, where Northern Region will play Brong Ahafo Region. The fixture could have an important impact on the group standings, making the result particularly significant for both teams.

The final match of the day will see Greater Accra Region take on Central Region, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.

Greater Accra Region enter the contest as the competition’s free-scoring side and will be looking to maintain their attacking momentum. Central Region, however, will hope to respond with a disciplined display capable of limiting their opponents and frustrating the tournament’s high-flying team.

The four fixtures continue a championship programme designed to expose Ghana’s most promising young footballers to demanding and meaningful competition. The MTN Elite U-19 Championship gives players the chance to improve their technical and tactical qualities while gaining valuable experience in a structured football environment.

With Matchday Three now under way, the competing regions will also be looking to establish stronger foundations for the remainder of the group stage.
