Tay keeps key role as Ghanaâ??s Black Princesses reveal Poland squad numbers

Ghana’s Black Princesses have confirmed their squad numbers for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, with experienced defender Alexandra Tay assigned the number 14 shirt.

Tay is one of three players returning to the global tournament and will make a second appearance at the competition. Her inclusion in Coach Charles Sampson’s squad underlines the importance of her experience as Ghana prepares for its latest attempt to reach the knockout stage.

The Black Princesses are targeting a historic run in Poland, and Tay will retain a prominent role in the team’s defensive plans. The number 14 jersey will therefore be worn by a player who has already experienced the demands of football’s premier under-20 women’s tournament.

Ghana Football Association communications released the official squad-number details ahead of the competition, confirming the numbers allocated across the team.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies defender Diana Amoako has been handed the number 4 shirt. Amoako enters the tournament after helping her club secure the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title, adding recent domestic success to Ghana’s preparations.

Police Ladies defender Margaret Agyapomaa will wear number 15. Her selection provides another defensive option for Sampson as the Black Princesses aim to progress beyond the group stage and secure the historic knockout-stage berth they are seeking.

Dreamz Ladies defender Precious Asante completes the defensive group named in the announcement and has been allocated the number 20 jersey.

The confirmed numbers place Tay, Amoako, Agyapomaa and Asante among the defenders Ghana will rely on during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Tay’s number 14 is the most notable assignment because of her previous appearance at the tournament and her continued role within Sampson’s plans.

The Black Princesses will now head into the Poland finals with their official squad numbers established, while Ghana’s attention turns to its wider objective of making history by reaching the knockout stage.
