Morocco striker Tawfik Bentayeb has been cleared to join the Atlas Lions ahead of their friendly against Ghana after medical tests ruled out a concussion and skull fracture.
The Anderlecht forward was taken to hospital following a head collision during Saturday’s 3-0 Belgian league victory over Zulte Waregem, raising concerns over his availability for Morocco’s upcoming international fixtures.
However, examinations produced reassuring results, allowing the 24-year-old to travel and link up with Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad.
Bentayeb was involved in the action before the injury, opening the scoring for Anderlecht and contributing to the move that led to their second goal before being forced off after his collision with Laurent Lemoine.
He was kept under observation at hospital before being discharged at around 2am after the medical checks showed no serious damage.
Although he has been cleared to join Morocco, Bentayeb must complete an individual recovery programme under FIFA’s medical protocol for head injuries. The process is expected to last seven to 10 days, meaning his availability against Ghana will ultimately depend on further medical clearance.
The forward has been named in Morocco’s 29-man squad for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho, as well as the friendly against Ghana.
Morocco will face Gabon on September 25 and Lesotho four days later before taking on the Black Stars in Tangier on October 4.
