Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has singled out Brandon Thomas-Asante for praise after the Ghanaian forward helped the Sky Blues secure their first Premier League victory of the season.
Thomas-Asante played the full 90 minutes as Coventry defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday, ending a run of four consecutive league defeats since their return to the top flight.
Lampard was particularly impressed by the forward’s work rate and his contribution to Coventry’s efforts to press Forest and move the team up the pitch.
“A special mention for Brandon Thomas-Asante. Brandon’s work ethic, continuously sort of pressing and helping and then getting the ball and getting us up the pitch,” Lampard said.
“And I thought, you know, to sit down and check a few of that football round, the boys are brilliant,” he added.
Thomas-Asante’s display came alongside another promising performance from compatriot Caleb Yirenkyi, who started the game and played until the 90th minute.
The game remained goalless at half-time before Wales international Jay Dasilva broke the deadlock in the 55th minute to secure Coventry’s first league win of the campaign.
The victory was particularly significant for the newly promoted side, marking their first Premier League triumph in 25 years.
Yirenkyi has been included in Carlos Queiroz’s latest Ghana squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Thomas-Asante was reportedly handed a late call-up.
