Sissala West MP ‘marries’ 4,000 widows

THE MEMBER OF Parliament for Sissala West and Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu has ‘married’ over 4,000 widows in the area by gifting them with assorted food items to mark this year’s Christmas.

The items included 8000 bags of rice, and 4000 pieces of wax print. Each of the 4000 widows drawn from the clusters went home with 5 kilograms of rice and half a piece of printed wax as a way of support.

Addressing the beneficiaries ahead of the presentation of the items in Gwollu, the District Capital, the MP indicated that the items were his way of showing support to these women who have no one to attend to them in this moment of their lives.

“These are mothers and sisters who do not have anyone to go to for the celebration of the year. So, I have decided to ‘marry’ all the 4000 widows in my constituency”, he emphatically stated.

“As a son of a widow, I know how my mother suffered in taking care of us. So for me to become an MP, and also a deputy minister, if I turn my back on where I come from, it means that my future will not be good for me”.

The Deputy Minister, while assuring the widows of his continued support for their well-being, called on others to support with the little available to ensure these women are properly taken care of.

He assured of extending the social intervention project to include free health screening.

The District Chief Executive for Sissala West, Abudu Fuseini Gbene, while commending the effort of the MP, called on the residents to give their maximum support to him [MP] to ensure he delivers his mandate.

He said this is the second edition of the social intervention project, which has seen a major increase in terms of beneficiaries as compared to last year and also indicates the Assembly’s readiness to support.

Meanwhile, Memuna Sumani, a widow from the Jeffisi community, is among the Several beneficiaries who expressed their gratitude to the MP. She described the support as timely and prayed for continued stay as the MP for the area.

Meanwhile as part of this year’s efforts, a free medical screening will also be organized. Beneficiaries with minor health issues will receive free treatment, while those with more serious conditions will be supported through various interventions to ensure they get the care they need.

This year, over 4,000 widows benefited from the project. Items distributed included more than 4,000 pieces of half-wax print fabric and 800 bags of rice, with a total value exceeding GHS 650,000.
