The Circuit Court at Dansoman has granted bail to seven persons accused of involvement in disturbances at Aplaku, in the Greater Accra Region, that allegedly resulted in gunfire, injuries, and the destruction of property.
The accused persons; Nii Tettey Mensah, Justice Nartey Adams, Jonas Appiah, Stephen Kabu Mensah, Emmanuel Tetteh, Nii Tetteh Aplaku and Nii Ahene Aplaku were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with two sureties.
One of the sureties for each accused person is required to justify the bail with a title deed equivalent to the bail amount.
The court, presided over by Her Honour Nancy Teiko Searyoh, admitted the accused persons to bail after they were arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, causing harm and causing unlawful damage.
According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, the accused persons allegedly conspired on November 13, 2025 at Aplaku to cause harm.
They have also been charged with causing harm to Emmanuel Addy and Benjamin Asomani and unlawfully damaging property belonging to Nii Kwei Aplaku III, the chief of Aplaku.
The prosecution alleges that the accused persons intentionally damaged roofing sheets, cooking utensils and a wall of a building belonging to the complainant, with the damage estimated at GH¢25,000.
Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecution stated that Nii Kwei Aplaku III, a traditional ruler and chief of Aplaku, lodged a complaint against the accused persons.
The first accused, Nii Tettey Mensah, is said to be the head of the Okoso Family of Aplaku, while the others occupy various traditional and community leadership positions or are followers of the first accused.
According to investigators, police received intelligence in November 2025 that the first accused and his followers were planning to install a rival chief in the township.
The parties were subsequently taken to court on November 12, 2025 where they were reportedly made to sign a bond of good behaviour.
However, the prosecution alleges that on the following day, the accused persons defied the court’s orders and proceeded with the installation of a rival chief amid the firing of musketry within the community.
The prosecution further told the court that at about 6:50 p.m. on the same day, the accused persons allegedly fired pump-action guns into the premises of the complainant.
During the incident, two persons said to have been inside the complainant’s house sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police investigations reportedly revealed several bullet holes on the walls of the complainant’s residence, damaged roofing sheets and broken bottles at the scene.
The prosecution said empty cartridges could not be recovered because they had allegedly been removed from the scene before police arrived.
The injured victims were issued police medical report forms, which were subsequently endorsed by medical officers.
The accused persons were later arrested but denied the allegations in their caution statements.
Following investigations, they were formally charged and brought before the court.
