13 Killed In Fresh Plateau Attacks

At least 13 people have been killed and several others injured in separate attacks on communities in Jos South, Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The attacks occurred on Sunday night, with nine passengers travelling to Jos killed after suspected terrorists opened fire on their vehicle at Dungus community in Jos South Local Government Area.

Speaking to Channels Television’s correspondent in a telephone interview, the spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the incident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. when the vehicle came under attack.

Tengwong said the victims were passengers travelling to Jos when the attackers opened fire on their vehicle. He added that some of those injured were rushed to hospitals, where some later died.

He said one of those killed was a member of Operation Rainbow, describing the incident as a sad development.

In a separate attack in Mangu Local Government Area, suspected terrorists reportedly attacked Vodni community in Pushit District during the night, killing two people.

Four others sustained gunshot injuries and were receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu town.

Also in Riyom Local Government Area, two people were reportedly killed in a separate attack at Tahoos around the same period.

The latest attacks have renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Plateau State, with residents and communities continuing to call for stronger measures to protect lives and property.

When contacted by telephone, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Ayo Faniyan, confirmed that attacks had occurred but said the command was still gathering information on the incidents.

He added that the police would issue an official statement after obtaining comprehensive details of the attacks.
