Police to Roll Out Automated Traffic Enforcement Nationwide from October 1

According to the statement, the programme is intended to address indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improve compliance with traffic laws and regulations. It will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support enforcement of road traffic regulations.

Under the system, detected offences will be reviewed before an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) is issued to the vehicle owner or driver by SMS. The notice will specify the offence committed and the fine prescribed.

The Service called on motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and to support the programme’s implementation, stating that the aim is to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and casualties.
