The University of Cape Coast (UCC) School of Business has paid a courtesy call on the management of the Business and Financial Times (B&FT) to explore areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening industry–academia engagement, entrepreneurship development and business knowledge dissemination.
The delegation was led by the Dean of the UCC School of Business, Professor Samuel Kwaku Agyei. Other members of the delegation were the Vice-Dean, Professor Innocent Acquah; Faculty Officer, Evelyn Osam-Pinanko; and an accountant, Emmanuel Awuku Mensah.
Professor Agyei said the visit was to formally express appreciation to B&FT for its support and coverage during the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations, while also opening discussions on how the two institutions could work more closely together going forward.
“We came to thank you for the support you gave us during our anniversary activities. Beyond that, we see the need to build a lasting relationship with your institution,” he said.
He noted that the school was keen on partnerships that would enhance its engagement with industry, provide practical exposure for students and create platforms for academic staff to contribute to national business and economic discourse.
Receiving the delegation, Chairperson of the B&FT Group, Dr. Edith Dankwa, described the visit as timely and acknowledged the historical ties between UCC and the newspaper.
She observed that while UCC had made significant progress in repositioning itself across multiple disciplines, there was a need for more consistent and strategic communication to project the School of Business and the university’s broader strengths.

“UCC has evolved significantly and is doing very well as a university. That progress, especially within the School of Business, needs to be communicated more consistently,” she said, adding that B&FT was open to engagements that add value to both academia and industry.
Dr. Dankwa indicated that potential areas of collaboration could include platforms that promote thought leadership, encourage wider engagement with business and economic issues, and support teaching and learning through practical, real-time content.
Chief Executive Officer of the B&FT Group, Dr. Godwin Aquaye, for his part, noted that the discussions aligned with the newspaper’s broader interest in youth development and entrepreneurship.
He highlighted the B&FT Youth Economic Forum, a youth-focused initiative designed to equip young people with entrepreneurial, digital and business skills, scheduled for February 26, 2026. He noted that the platform provides opportunities for learning, mentorship and practical engagement.
Dr. Aquaye said such initiatives could be relevant to university students across disciplines, especially at a time when entrepreneurship and innovation are becoming central to graduate employability and economic transformation.
He further underscored the importance of cultivating a reading culture among students, noting that engagement with credible business journalism and current affairs supports academic work and exposes students to real-world economic dynamics.
In response, Professor Agyei welcomed the suggestions and said they were consistent with UCC’s broader goal of strengthening its entrepreneurial orientation.
He noted that the School of Business hosts structures such as the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development, which coordinates entrepreneurship programmes across the university and could serve as a channel for student engagement in external initiatives.
He also acknowledged that the school has strong academic expertise, and expressed readiness to contribute to national economic discourse in ways that support wider public understanding and informed decision-making.
Both institutions expressed commitment to sustaining engagement and identifying practical areas of collaboration that contribute to skills development, entrepreneurship and stronger linkages between academia and Ghana’s business community.
Other B&FT management team members present were Francis Botchwey-Dadzie, Finance Manager; Charles Panyin-Atkins, Events Manager; Daniel Hollie, Sales and Circulation Manager; Juliet Etefe, Online Editor and Nicholas Gyamfi, Digital Marketer.
