President John Dramani Mahama delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament has announced that government’s flagship 24 – Hour Economy policy has officially entered its operational stage following the passage and signing into law of the 24 – Hour Economy Authority Bill.
The Bill, he disclosed was passed on February 6, 2026 and established that the new law will provide legal and regulatory framework required to operationalise it.
He confirmed that with his assent to the legislation, the framework for execution is firmly in place.
An allocation of GH?110m was allocated in the 2026 Budget to begin the setup and implementation of the 24 – Hour Economy Authority.
According to President Mahama: “The programme seeks to unlock round – the – clock economic activities across key sectors, deepen value chain and boost productivity and export growth.”
He established that the initiative will focus on agriculture, manufacturing, logistics and services which aims at creating quality and sustainable jobs, particularly for the youth.
He also indicated that the programme forms part of the broader Accelerated Export Development Programme which was launched in 2025 to strengthen the country’s export capacity and encourage competitiveness.
The President further disclosed that implementation of the 24 – Hour Economy Authority will be strategically supported through a partnership with the Development Bank Ghana and the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund to mobilise finance and investment.
He described the policy as the “boldest economic transformation in Ghana’s recent history”.
