Football, entertainment and raw talent came together in spectacular fashion last Sunday as Myres Manuel Odonkor Junior emerged champion of the Accra edition of the 1v1 Africa Football Challenge, walking away with the coveted ?100,000 top prize.
Held at the AIS Astro Turf in East Legon, the competition transformed the venue into a festival of football as hundreds of fans gathered to witness a thrilling showcase of one-on-one action. From the first whistle, players displayed skill, speed and creativity in a format that rewards individual brilliance and composure under pressure.
Odonkor Junior proved unstoppable throughout the competition, producing a series of impressive performances before sealing victory in the final. His triumph earned him the day’s biggest reward and the title of Accra champion.
Opoku Elvis finished as runner-up and received GH?50,000, while Chris Mensah secured third place and took home GH?25,000. The Best Goalkeeper award went to Senyo Martin, whose outstanding performances between the posts earned him GH?30,000.
In total, more than GH?400,000 was awarded during the event, making it one of the most rewarding grassroots football competitions on the local sporting calendar.
Hosted by musician and entrepreneur Mr. Eazi and supported by Mobike, the event blended sport, entertainment and community engagement, creating an energetic atmosphere that kept spectators engaged throughout the day.
One of the biggest highlights came when popular Ghanaian actor Sulley Sadik stepped onto the turf for a special one-on-one challenge against Mr. Eazi. The friendly contest drew loud cheers from fans and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the event.
The Accra competition followed the successful launch of 1v1 Africa in Lagos, Nigeria, where the unique format attracted significant attention for its celebration of street football culture and individual talent. Sunday’s strong turnout suggested that enthusiasm for the competition is rapidly spreading across the continent.
Speaking after the final, Mr. Eazi praised both the players and the supporters, describing Accra as another powerful example of the football talent that exists across Africa.
“Ghana showed up today. The level of talent we saw on this pitch was incredible. What makes 1v1 Africa special is giving players a platform to express themselves and be seen. After Lagos, it feels great to be here in Accra, and this is only the beginning of what we want to build across Africa,” he said.
For many participants, the tournament offered more than prize money. It provided a rare opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a passionate crowd, with every duel carrying the intensity and excitement of a cup final.
With successful editions now held in Lagos and Accra, 1v1 Africa is steadily establishing itself as one of the continent’s most exciting grassroots football platforms, giving talented players an opportunity to shine while offering fans a fresh and entertaining football experience.
