The Private Sector and Innovation Promotion (PSInno) project has been launched in Tamale to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promote innovation and create jobs in northern Ghana.

The initiative, a partnership between Ghana and Germany, aims to support more than 1,100 women-led and youth-led businesses in agribusiness and the digital economy. It is expected to help generate about 2,000 jobs and support around 60 innovations by 2028.
The project will be implemented by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), the German development agency GIZ and other development partners.
Speaking at the launch, a representative of the sector minister at MoTAI said the project aligns with government efforts to strengthen the private sector and accelerate economic growth through initiatives such as commercial contract farming and agro-processing.
Acting Chief Director of the NRCC, Sumaila Ewuntomah Abudu, speaking on behalf of Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John, said northern Ghana should be recognised as a hub for innovation and economic opportunity rather than a recipient of aid.

German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Linaschoff described the project as a reflection of the longstanding partnership between Ghana and Germany in promoting sustainable development, innovation and economic resilience.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Prof. Terry Ansah, commended the initiative, saying it would contribute to youth employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth in northern Ghana.

The launch brought together government officials, entrepreneurs, development partners, academics and private sector actors to discuss innovation and inclusive economic development.
