President Mahama, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and others in a pose with the new envoys
President John Dramani Mahama has charged newly appointed diplomatic envoys to put Ghana’s unity and national interest first, emphasising that their appointments are a call to high national service.
He stressed that their conduct must rise above partisan considerations and be guided solely by what best serves the Republic of Ghana.
Speaking at their swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House on Monday, February 9, President Mahama indicated that their appointment and operations must rise above partisan considerations for the development of the nation.
“Your appointment is not merely an honour; it is a call to high national service,” the President said. “From this moment onwards, you must embody Ghana’s unity, its values, credibility and aspirations,” he added.
He advised the envoys to project Ghana’s unity, values, credibility and aspiration, both domestically and on the international stage.
President Mahama noted that they are taking office at a time of significant global change, marked by geopolitical tensions, economic shifts, technological disruption, and climate pressures.
“In this environment, Ghana expects sound judgement, strategic thinking, discipline, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to our national interest,” he stated.
The President emphasised that modern diplomacy requires clarity of purpose, professionalism, and the ability to navigate competing global interests while safeguarding the country’s priorities. He urged the envoys to serve with distinction, integrity, and patriotism, expressing confidence in their ability to do so.
The new envoys are Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Lt. Col. Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed, Ambassador to the Republic of Mali; Mr. Kofi Attor, Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba; Mr. Emmanuel Opeku, Ambassador-in-Situ; and Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, High Commissioner to the Republic of Malta.
