Hundreds of orthodox Muslims celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha in Takoradi
Takoradi, Oct. 26 GNA - Hundreds of Orthodox Muslims in Takoradi on Friday celebrated the Eid-Ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice.
Alhaji Mohammed Awal, Imam of Takoradi, led the service during which prayers were offered for peaceful elections and the orderly development of the country.
Imam Awal advised Muslim youth in zongo communities to stay away from electioneering conflicts and violence and urged them not to allow themselves to be used by self-seeking politicians to cause disturbance and mayhem in their communities.
He said peace was a necessary prerequisite for the country’s development and Muslims and non-muslims should all contribute towards the preservation of peace in the country.
Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, called on political parties to conduct the elections in a peaceful manner.
He said there is the need for political parties to conduct their campaigns in an acceptable manner so that the party that wins the elections could continue the development of the country in a congenial atmosphere.
Mr Gyan said only one party and one candidate would win the election so there was no need for violence and unnecessary conflicts.
He urged Muslims to use the festival to strengthen their faith to enable them to play more constructive roles in the country.
“I hope the festival would inspire you to devote yourselves to God’s work”, Mr Gyan said.
