Palestinian death toll reaches 140
Gaza City, NOV. 21 (dpa/GNA) - The Palestinian death toll from Israel's offensive in Gaza has reached 140, the Wafa news agency reported.
Some 1,100 have been wounded. It said that many of the casualties were civilians.
The latest fatality was a 23-year-old killed in an Israeli airstrike on a group of Palestinians outside Jabalya refugee camp, north-east of Gaza City. It was not immediately clear whether he was a militant or a civilian and what the group was doing in the orchard near the border with Israel. Several others were injured. Militants have been firing rockets from the border areas.
Among the targets pounded by Israel overnight were Hamas' Ministry of Internal Security, which Israel charged was used by the Islamist movement as its main command centre, the sixth floor of a Gaza City commercial tower, tunnels, and a bridge.
A house bombed in central Gaza, which Israel alleged was used as a hideout by a militant leader, was destroyed, but no injuries were reported as the occupants evacuated after receiving a warning from the Israeli military.
