Let’s Vote On Issues, Not Party Symbols-Carr
Obuasi, Nov 23, GNA - Eligible voters have been asked to vote on issues and not party colours and symbols to advance the development of the nation, the 2004 Obuasi parliamentary candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC) Mr. Macheal Carr, has said.
“We should vote for development and not the name of the political party or its colours and symbols,” he told the GNA in an in interview.
Mr. Carr expressed worry about the way a lot of ballot papers got spoiled during elections and called on the Electoral Commission(EC), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ministry of Information to step up public education on voting.
“It is not a healthy sign in our quest to deepen our democracy. Since 1996 the country has voted five times and yet we still spoil ballot paper”, he said.
Mr Carr appealed to the youth to conduct themselves in a decent manner that would not end up in violence and that it was of no use for the youth to allow themselves to be hired by politicians to cause trouble since these same politicians would not think of them again immediately the elections were over.
Mr. Carr turned his attention to Obuasi and urged the electorate to vote wisely by giving the mandate to the candidate who would help move the municipality forward.
“There are parliamentarians who are always on phone. If you want to discuss development issues with him, he is always busy on phone. Avoid such people”, he said.
