Odomase (B/R), May 17, GNA – A disastrous fire outbreak has gutted a five-bedroom house at Low-cost, a suburb at Odomase, the Sunyani West District capital in the Bono Region and rendered eight persons homeless.
Mr Adam Mohammed K. Adu Afful, a Deputy Chief Driver with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at its Sunyani Office is a tenant of that house with his wife and three children.
According to Mrs. Selina Adam Afful, the wife of Mr Adam, it was only “divine intervention”, that prevented the “inferno” from burning their three children.
Mrs. Afful, shedding uncontrollable tears narrated to GNA in an interview on that fateful day, saying “I was the only adult in the house washing clothes outside, while the kids were in the room”.
Around 1445 hours, I heard the sound of fire explosion in the living room and therefore rushed in to disconnect the electrical gadgets and quickly picked away the kids with the assistance of a young man, a neighbour, she said.
“Soon after”, Mrs. Afful added “I saw smoke all over the room and the roof but my husband was out for work, so I began shouting for help”.
In a short moment, when a team of Fire Service personnel arrived, the fire had engulfed the entire house and blazingly burnt everything to ashes.
A team of eight fire personnel from the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station led by Assistant Station Officer (ASO) Simon Adongo came to put the fire under control.
ASO Adongo said the cause of the fire was under investigation, but eye witnesses interviewed by GNA attributed it to electrical fault.
