Former Ghana international William Kwabena Tierro has described the Black Stars’ 2026 World cup group as a tough one.
Following the draw in Washington on December 5, the West African football heavyweights has been paired in Group L giants European giants, England, 2018 World Cup finalist, Croatia and Panama.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
It will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals.
“It won’t be easy for Ghana at the World Cup. It will be a disaster should Ghana underestimate any of our group opponents. For me, there are no minnows in the game anymore because football has evolved” he told Kessben FM in an interview.
“You underrate Panama at their own risk. Our style is similar to that of South America and North America. For Panama to qualify from this continent justifies their capabilities heading into the World Cup”
“Our group is not easy at all. I will urge Ghana to prepare well for the tournament” he added.
Meanwhile, Ghana has secured a high-profile friendly match against Germany scheduled for March 30, 2026.
