Egypt have topped Group B with seven points after drawing goalless with Angola in their final group match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Pharaohs went into Monday’s game having won their first two matches of the campaign.
With qualification already secured, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan opted to rest his key players, leaving the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trezeguet, and Omar Marmoush all on the bench.
Although the gaffer fielded a new-look starting eleven, Egypt managed to keep out Angola at halftime.
After recess, the introduction of Zizo handed Egypt more firepower upfront as they came close to scoring on a few occasions.
Angola did see most of the ball and played some delightful football, but struggled to break down the resolute defence of the Pharaohs.
Despite the end-to-end action that ensued in the final 20 minutes of the game, where Angola pushed and piled the pressure, they could not equalise and draw goalless at full-time.
It is a result that means Angola are out of AFCON 2025. Egypt, on the other hand are through to the Round 16 stage as winners of Group B with seven points.
In the same group, South Africa finished second with six points and are also through to the knockout stage.
