The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an investigation into incidents involving players and officials during the quarter-final matches between Cameroon and Morocco, and Algeria and Nigeria, at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement issued on Monday, CAF said it has reviewed recent match reports and video evidence, which point to potentially unacceptable behaviour by some players and officials during the two fixtures.
The continent’s governing body confirmed that the matters have been referred to its Disciplinary Board for further investigation, with possible sanctions to follow if those involved are found guilty.
CAF also disclosed that it is examining video footage of a separate incident in the mixed zone involving members of the media, who are alleged to have engaged in misconduct.
The statement added that CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour during its competitions, particularly actions directed at match officials or organisers, and stressed that firm action will be taken against anyone whose conduct falls short of the expected professional standards at CAF events.
Morocco and Nigeria advanced to the semi-finals from their respective quarter-final clashes and will face each other in Rabat on Wednesday, while Senegal and Egypt will meet earlier in the day.
